Worth seeing...

image via.
The topic is not an easy one, but this movie has a light, fairytale-like tone and is enjoyable and very sweet.
The only thing that could have been a bit better, my boyfriend and I both agreed, was that the characters could have been explored a little deeper...at the end of the movie you don't really feel like you "know" them much, but nontheless the movie is very good, not to mention visually pleasing...the aesthetic is beautiful...

Etsy love...

I was thinking of adding a little feature to my blog where, every once in a while, I post a selection of pretty etsy finds, both handmade and vintage. There are so many amazing stores on etsy and I'm planning on using it more for gifts this year, handmade gifts (even if not necessarily handmade by you) are always a little more special than store bought ones, I think...
So here's this week's selection:

My own handmade stuff

Today I'm wearing something that is handknit, but this time not by me...this is a sweater my mom made for me back when I was in highschool. The yarn is beautiful as far as the colors are concerned but sadly the quality was not so great...it started pilling straight away after the first time we washed it. Every once in a while I'll shave it a little, which helps, but we've both used better yarns in our long years of knitting. She used a pattern in an old magazine but changed the sleeves a bit and the pattern included some colorwork which she did not do because the variegated yarn was pretty enough by itself. Regardless of the pilling I still love this sweater and keep wearing it often, it's also really really warm!

Twist Collective winter 2011

I came across the new Twist Collective issue yesterday and I think it has to be my favorite yet. There are so many beautiful sweaters that have flattering shapes and a great use of cables of colorwork, all of which I could totally see myself wearing all the time. They look great on the models, and I love the mix of modern shapes and traditional cables (even though some of the cables are quite innovative! See here)
Twist Collective is always a great source of inspiration.
Here are some of my favorite patterns:

Oscillate by Amy Herzog

Jaina by Thayer Preece

Kyllene by Kirsten Jensen

Finial by Alison Green Will
Midtown by Sandi Rosner
Wetherell by Leah Thibault
(love the dogs!)
Corcovado by Carol Feller
Bellevue by Robin Melanson
Cithara by Corrina Ferguson
Voluta by Rachel Erin
Okame by Tabetha Hedrick

(All pictures via)

My favorite has to be Voluta, I love the construction, the way it crosses in the front without sagging anywhere and the cables (I'm not sure you can really call them cables, but whatever they are, they're beautiful) and the fact that it's in one of my favorite colors helps too.
I also love Kyllene, both the shape and the amazing colorwork.

As far as the sweater I'm knitting is concerned...I'm getting there! I still have to finish the sleeves and the neck and then I'm done. It's coming out quite well, or so it seems for now!

F.O.: The dark green textured scarf

Here's a new F.O. I will be putting up on etsy soon...it's a dark green scarf knit up in a very thick yarn that is 55% wool and 45% acrylic. I wanted to knit up something quick (I've been doing a few Christmas markets lately and was running out of things to sell!) that was simple, classic and wearable and I think this scarf has all three of these qualities, no?
Details on my etsy page!

Etsy love: The Arbor Vitae

As you probably know already, etsy is a great source for vintage clothing. A lot of the vintage pieces I own come from etsy (a lot of other pieces come from my Grandma's closet, which I raided a while back) and a store I particularly love and love buying from is The Arbor Vitae. The lovely owner, Monika, updates it constantly with new items (which she divides in eras: from the 1940's to the 1980's) and she has such an eye for beautiful things! Beautiful dresses and skirts with incredible patterns, cardigans, jackets, etc. and in such great conditions!
Even though I never buy shoes online cause I'm afraid they might hurt I always browse through her shoe section too which has some really pretty flats and pumps (go take a look!).
This store is definitely the perfect place for quality vintage shopping!
