A glimpse of my messed-up knitting notes...

See those little circles, some of which are filled in? Each circle represents a row and I fill them in every time I complete one when I have to keep count of the rows or the increases or decreases. Every knitter has her (or his) way of keeping track, I use this little method cause I find it very visually satisfying in showing the progress I am making on whatever I'm knitting!

On why one should always have a camera handy...

You never know...you might come across:

A beautiful summer storm...
Uno spettacolare temporale estivo...

...some really cool street art...
...dei graffiti fighissimi...

...a cat that enjoys chilling in shoeboxes...

...or, but this was a while ago...a friendly magpie!

And this is just beautiful...

I was checking out the online patterns on www.interweave.com and this beautiful cardigan caught my eye. Not surprisingly it was by Melissa Wehrle. As I have said before I love her designs, they combine classic elements and modern shapes, and they are never boring, there's always some interesting detail...love her style.

I updated my etsy shop with some winter garments! And, because I am a naughty girl, I started a sweater for myself. I wasn't planning to, I have way too many things to do as it is, and I have to start some comissioned things as soon as possible (but I still can't bring myself to touch any thick wool, seriously it's 28 degrees (celcius) and 94% humidity in my house). Also, I'm already making myself a skirt (I try not to have more than one project for myself at a time), but I had this really good idea the other day and I had to start it. When inspiration hits you gotta act, not wait. Right?

O no?

New yarn from overseas...

Why hello there!
Buondì!

Don't know how well you can tell from this picture but my left eye is red and swollen in the corner and is itching like crazy. This is extremely annoying.

Buuuut, talking about the really important stuff...my parents just come back from their vacation in South America and they brought me some new yarn from Peru!

This is pure baby alpaca in a beautiful shade of blue. It is the softest thing I have ever felt, it's incredible. There's enough to make a sweater for myself in it but I still don't have any ideas, and I'm not going to rush it, this yarn deserves to be used for something that is thoroughly thought through (ha! Alliteration).

And this wool they bought at the market in Chincero and they didn't know what kind of wool it is, only that it was handspun. I already made two balls out of it cause I'm terrified of it getting all tangled up. It feels very raw, might be a little itchy, but I want to make myself an infinity scarf and a hat out this, hope there is enough, I love the color!

And so that this post doesn't end up only being about stuff for myself...here's a little sneak peek at my last summer project of the year:
E per evitare di parlare solo di cose che voglio fare per me stessa...vi lascio dare una sbirciatina all'ultimo progetto estivo di quest'anno:

I was thinking of starting to upload some fall/winter stuff on my etsy page this evening already...stay tuned!

Love this...

While browsing through etsy the other day I came across this beautiful shop: Tuckoo and Moo Cow. I love the idea and I find these pieces absolutely fascinating (I have always had a thing for really tiny paintings, I am always drawn to them when I go to museums or art exhibitions or when I see them in peoples homes). The style of the paintings is beautiful and it reminds me of illustrations on childrens books, the good kind, not the tacky kind...and these charms are very wearable but yet unique. I think they would make a great gift for someone who has an eye for things that are a little different, a little special. I asked the lovely owner of the shop, Sarah-Lambert Cook, where she got the idea in the first place for her beautiful creations and this is what she answered: "I got the idea for them from some bottle cap pins we were selling in a shop I worked at a few years back. The bottle cap pins had little collages under some glitter resin and I though, "Hey, I could do that with paintings!"
Oh, and she has another etsy shop where she sells her original art and prints...beautiful stuff!

Oh my, I love...

I have the taste of an 85 year old woman, I know.

My own handmade stuff...

Today I am wearing a top I made ages ago, as in, about ten years ago, and that I have hardly ever worn. It is definitely the strangest thing I ever made for myself. I got the idea from a knitting magazine, but I didn't use the pattern from the magazine, I just flat out copied the idea of a top made up of two pieces held together by fringes. The double shoulder strap was my idea though, even though it's a little annoying because the strap that is supposed to stay up falls down like the other strap that is supposed to stay down. And another annoying thing is the yarn: it's actually a very pretty ribbon yarn, but it gets caught in everywhere. I think I never wore this outside of the house, it's not that I don't like it, I enjoy the fact that it is a little out of the ordinary, it's just that it's a little odd and I haven't really had the courage to wear it outside. Today might be an exception though...I don't know what I'm doing this evening, if I'm staying in or going out...we shall see...

Getting in the mood for fall and winter

See, here's the thing, I have a blog, and I like vintage clothes, and I watch Mad Men, and I like Modcloth, but in one thing I am not a walking stereotype (two actually, if you count the fact that I don't like cupcakes, or, rather, I've never even tried one): fall is NOT my favorite season. Summer is. By far. I long fot it all year and I never want it to end. That being said, I love all the seasons. Excuse the banality but I love tham all: spring blooms, fall colors, and fresh snow that seems to hush all the city noises. And I like fog, I think it's fascinating (except while driving), I love when I'm walking on one of my city's bridges and the fog is so thick you can't see on either side of the bridge (that's a little weird, I know). But I hate the end of summer, it makes me sad. So I'm trying to put myself in the mood for fall and winter (especially cause I really have to start making fall and winter garments) by looking through pictures from last year...

I only have one more summer project to finish and then I'll start with the fall/winter projects (I have some cool ideas cooking up in my brain). And I will update my etsy page soon with the fall/winter section, I'll start by putting up some things from last year and then I'll add the new stuff I make...

F.O.: The Tetris tank top!

Finally finished! And I have to say I'm quite satisfied...I had to redo the finishing on the sleeve holes because they were a little too tight but they are perfect now. Also, originally I hadn't thought of stitching the black lines between the "pixels" but once I finished the front I realized that without creating some sort of definition it was kind of difficult to make out the tetris pattern, so I stayed up till 4 one night to stitch the black lines (true story!) and I am very glad I did (although I could have had the patience to continue the next day rather than staying up that late, but yeah, when I want to get something done I tend to do that kind of thing).
The yarn is a soft acrylic-viscose blend, very nice to work with, I bought it in Germany 3 years ago (with the idea of this tank top already in mind, so I guess you can say that from the initial idea to the final product, this piece took my three years to finish).
Sooo, on to my etsy page it goes!

Finalmente finito!

UPDATE: this item is no longer available, sorry!

I'm back, I'm back...

If I haven't written in a while it's because this week I was away at the Sziget Festival in Budapest, which was absolutely awesome by the way. Concerts I saw (entirely or partially): Prince, Judas Priest (the absolute best), Motorhead, Flogging Molly, Rise Against, Goran Bregovich, Gogol Bordello, Sonata Arctica. I think that's it. The rest of the time was spent touring the beautiful city of Budapest and trying out the spas...The Szechenyi Bath was the best as far as what the Spa had to offer, but the Gellert Spa had the most incredible Art Nouveau architecture (it was opened in 1918), I am so sad I didn't have my camera with me that day...
Anyhow...back to studying now, and I have a lot of knitting projects I want to get done, one is almost finished...my etsy shop is open again and expect updates soon!

Concerti visti (interamente o in parte): Prince, Judas Priest (il migliore in assoluto), Motorhead, Flogging Molly, Rise Against, Goran Bregovich, Gogol Bordello, Sonata Arctica.

New Kim Hargreaves book

Ok so the new Kim Hargreaves book Shadows is out, check it out here. I have always loved her designs and found them very inspiring but I have to admit, as with the summer book this year, I am a little disappointed. I find it a little dull and it has too many shapeless sweaters that look a little weird on the models. But some things I did like:

Sharp
Steel
Harris
Baron
Brad
Logan
These six I find really beautiful and flattering and very much Kim Hargreaves' style, but on the whole I still prefer other books like Precious or Heartfelt.

FO: Multicolor summer scarf

Well well, I managed to get one thing done today...let me introduce: my new multicolored summer scarf!

I like the way it turned out! Came out a little more seventies than I was expecting but I like it that way.
Details on my Etsy page!

Busy like a bee

I've been working my little fingers off lately cause there are so many things I want to get done, my oh my is knitting and crocheting SLOW. Yesterday I checked out the Twist Collective website and the fall issue is out! Lots of things in there are awesome, lots of cool colorwork which I am loving...here are some of my favorites!

Roseling by Anne Kuo Lukito
Scout by Hannah Cuviello
Dylan by Megan Goodacre
Twinings by Amy Herzog
Evendim by Julia Trice
Kiyomi by Barbara Gregory
Kent by Katya Wilsher
There were others that were great too. If I had to choose my favorite out of all these I would probably say Kiyomi...love the shape, the fun way it closes in the front and the colorwork is amazing.
This issue also had a great article about seams...I never really learned how to seam correctly from a book, I always just did what felt right, and the result wasn't bad but I'm going to refer to this article next time because I'm sure it can help me make cleaner seams that will improve the overall quality of the things I make.

Etsy updates soon! (I hope)
Presto aggiornamenti su Etsy! (spero)
