F.O.: light blue and gray heathered summer scarf

In my quest for organic cotton I found this amazing yarn from a company located not far from here, in northern Piedmont. The yarn, which is made from certified organic cotton and dyed with ecological dyes, comes in a variety of beautiful colors and I especially fell in love with this gorgeous light blue and gray heathered colorway. The colors blend in together beautifully and with a regular succession and I love the muted blue and gray.
I used a dropped stitch pattern to give the scarf a light and airy quality and to include a little garter stitch in it.

The elegance of garter stitch

Garter stitch is the first stitch you learn when knitting for the first time. It is the absolute simplest since you repeat the same stitch on every stitch and every row. What happens is that when you start learning how to do things that are more complex, like textured stitches, lace, cables etc. you often tend to forget about garter stitch and leave it to beginners. The truth is that garter stitch is a very versatile and useful design element since it yealds a beautiful, sturdy fabric that doesn't curl at the edges and doesn't bias even with yarns that are over-twisted.
I have neglected garter stitch for a long time, poor thing, attracted as I was by more complex stitches, but I have been noticing recently that apart from being very useful it also gives a very elegant and refined touch to garments, even if used just for small details. Since I am more of a product knitter than a process knitter I have decided to incorporate it into more of the items I make.
This is what I mean about the elegance of garter stitch:

Today I wish...

I had a porch or an open balcony...something like this...

And I also wish I were really good at making cocktails to drink on said porch/balcony...

Fascinating

A while back I found the time to go visit this exhibition at the Rivoli castle outside Turin and really enjoyed it. I knew nothing about Jan Dibbets and I was absolutely fascinated by the exhibition, which is cleverly organized and where a really well written leaflet helps you understand the work of the artist and gives you a better insight into his process and his ideas. I loved how he uses photography, which is generally seen as a way of reproducing reality, to create abstract works of art and optical illusions with careful calculations involved. My boyfriend, who usually is a little skeptical in front of contemporary art, kept saying: "This guy is completely crazy. He is a genius. I love this...".
I really suggest going, the exhibition is on until the 29th of June, and the castle is always worth a trip (see pictures below).
