Bright and colorful in Finland

Marimekko is a Finnish fashion and home decor company that is actually very famous but I only found out about recently. I love prints and while I rarely wear prints this bold, I find the aesthetic of the company beautiful and the story behind it very interesting.

The company was founded in 1951 by Viljo and Armi Ratia initially as a textile company and then introducing a line of simple dresses. In the bleak atmosphere of post war Europe this company brought color and bold prints to lighten up the mood a bit and the company then gradually rose to success...the first fashion show at the Kalastajatorppa hotel in Helsinki was a huge success, in 1957 Giorgio Armani, who was working as a window dresser at the time, invited Ratia to display her line at the Rinascente in Milan, designers Vuokko Nurmesniemi and Maija Isola created prints that would become iconic and Jacqueline Kennedy even bought seven dresses from the company helping it rise to fame.
The company now has stores all over the world.
Take a look at this beautiful video to understand the company's philosophy better:

F.O.: Chunky purple scarf with diamond shaped lacy pattern

The weather is getting colder and I am actually starting to look forward to things like warm cups of tea while it's snowing outside, getting bundled up in warm wool sweaters, drinking vin brulè, going to the mountains to ski and hiding my nose in big chunky scarves.
In the spirit of which...here is my last addition to the shop...
It's a chunky shawl or infinity scarf, knit up in a beautiful 100% wool puple yarn with a diamond shaped lacy pattern all over it. What I love about these scarves is that you can wear them in different ways depending on how cold you are or what look you want to create...
As always...details on my etsy page!
